Embodied Dance & Connection Program

This holistic program is designed to empower all genders, particularly those who have experienced family violence, by offering a unique blend of belly dancing, yoga, and other healing movements. These practices go beyond physical exercises—they are powerful tools for expression, connection, and healing. Through these movements, participants can explore their emotions, improve their physical health, and cultivate a supportive sense of community.

Belly Dance (Raqs Sharqi)

Belly dance, also known as Raqs Sharqi, offers a unique somatic and dance movement therapy approach that helps release trauma by engaging the womb through movement. Energetically, the womb holds emotional wounds that may manifest physically as reproductive, hormonal, or menstrual issues. However, it is also a reservoir of creativity, symbolising the potential to create life and the ability to shape the life we desire.

For many women, especially those who have experienced domestic violence, sexual abuse, or sought asylum, trauma can heavily impact their confidence, self-esteem, and sense of body ownership. Such experiences may strip away personal power. Belly dance, with its gentle and feminine movements, provides a safe way to reconnect with the body. The joy and sense of community fostered through the practice are also essential in the healing journey of trauma survivors.

In this workshop, you will discover how belly dance can help rebuild self-confidence, enhance self-esteem, and restore a sense of control and ownership over your body. Additionally, belly dance can assist in releasing intrusive thoughts and improving focus and concentration. You will leave with key movements and concepts from belly dance to integrate into your practice.

Healing Movements Program

Our trauma-informed, strengths-based Community Program provides both one-day and six-week programs (held weekly), focusing on accessible, trauma-informed yoga, meditation, mindfulness, and social-emotional learning.

The program is tailored for:

  • Children and young adults who have experienced trauma.
  • People and communities with asylum-seeking and refugee backgrounds.
  • Survivors of family violence.
  • Individuals of all ages facing chronic stress, anxiety, and mental health challenges.

Our programs are committed to helping individuals in our community achieve optimum health and wellbeing.

Key objectives include:

  • In response to the increasing rates of family violence, we are dedicated to promoting gender equality and addressing issues of family violence and elder abuse.
  • We embrace a holistic view of health, aligned with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities’ understanding that health encompasses physical, mental, spiritual, emotional, and social wellbeing.
  • Grounded in social justice principles, our program advocates for human rights, access, equity, and participation. We are committed to fostering diversity, social inclusion, integration, and collaboration within local communities and neighborhoods.

Through this integrated approach, we aim to create a safe and nurturing environment where all participants can heal, connect, and thrive.
